Miss Tantrum-ess

Kid,

You are the best tantrum-er I know.
The most creative tantrum-ess....ever.
Woh.
Tonight was....a magical tantrum.
Full of many words - tantrum.
A song-like tantrum.

It went a little something like:

[in a yelling/crying/angry/urgent/tantrum voice]
"I want twinkle twinkle!!!!! I want Jesus [loves me]!!!!!" (you call it "Jesus" for short)

Then I respond with:
"Ok! Go ahead and sing twinkle twinkle."

The you respond [in a yelling/crying/angry/urgent/slightly singing/tantrum voice]  with:
"Twinnnnnkle twinnnnkle...NO! I want Jesus [loves me] !!! NO! I want binky! Twinnnnnkle twinnnkle....NO!!" -while laying on the floor in an utterly desperate manner.

Crying ensues.

I can't help but laugh, because I'm not really sure what the answer is.

All I know is that
IT
IS
TIME
FOR
BED

....you are already asleep.

I love your tantrums, kid.

Awwwwwww. And then there's this.
Can you wake up and play?

Wait.

On second thought, get some sleep.
Please.

We'll play tomorrow.

I love you...and your mighty yells.

iPhone Sunday-ness.

The "I-can't-get-enough" edition.

I can't get enough:

Peanuts.
Naps.
Piano playing
Laughing.
Mashed Potatoes.
Cheese.
Sushi.
Candied Walnuts.
Are you seeing a trend here??
I digress...

Here's awesome proof of some other things I can't get enough of:

Funkychunky Chip-Zel-Pop. More like Chip-Zel-CRACK.

I almost fell over when I saw this many Swedish Fish in ONE bag. It may or may not have been empty in about a week.

Movies with these two. This was her first movie. Tangled. She ate tons of popcorn...and loved it. Then, after we got home, she threw up ALLLLLLL the popcorn. That part I can do without.

This smile. This cutie. This kid. Heaven help me.

Food. Bread Bowls full of yumm-o soup.

This is a rad board game from the 70's. I heart board games. I am a nerd.

Well, she had to make the "I-can't-get-enough" list more than once. I can't get enough of the fact that she likes to sit and read magazines. Not rip them to shreds, but actually peruse them over from cover to cover.

It's just one of those days.
Can't wait til the weekend.

The word of the day is: Crazy
The phrase of the day: I need food.

Strawberry Rhubarb Crunch

I love this recipe.
I don't make it enough.
It's amazingly easy to make and VERY delicious. A little tart and a whole lot of sweetness.

The main ingredients? Strawberries and Rhubarb (thus, the title). See how easy this is already?

Don't have any Rhubarb on hand?
Go ask a neighbor.
Or your mom.
Or MY mom.
You can ask my mom if you want to.
Someone you know is bound to grow it in their back yard.

Here is the list of ingredients you'll need:

The FILLING
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 3 cups diced rhubarb
The CRISP
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup rolled oats
Let's DO this! (sorry - just wanted to sound cool...or dorky. Whichever).

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
In a large bowl, mix sugar, flour, strawberries and rhubarb.

*Betcha didn't know I have a hard time remembering how to spell the word rhubarb. It's that darn H. Get's me every time.

Stir it up real good.
Mmmm.

Pour mixture into a 9x13 and imagine how good it's going to taste.

Mix flour, brown sugar and oats until crumbly.
Try some.
You're welcome.

Crumble the crumble on top of the crumbly crumble crumbler.
Wait. What?
Sorry. I got lost in the crumbly deliciousness.
Spread that crumble on top of the strawberry rhubarb mix.

Bake for 45 minutes, or until crisp and bubbly.

Eat it.
...with ice cream, without ice cream.
...with a fork, without a fork.
...with a friend, without a friend.

YUM.

    Talk To Me.

     to the little miss

I love the stuff that comes out of your mouth
    (besides puke)

I should really write these moments/phrases of randomness down.
Thus - I am going to write them down NOW.

    Never to be forgotten.

    "All the world!"
-this is said with MUCH enthusiasm. And I have NO IDEA what it means. You tend to say it when you are very excited. Which is then followed by,
    "All the way!"

    "Watch your feet, DOG."
Your dad (a.k.a the rockstar) taught you that one. Directed towards the dog when he jumps up on the bed.

    "I don't believe it!!"
I'm not sure where you learned this. And I'm not sure what in the world, at two years old, would have you saying the phrase 'I don't believe it.'

    "It's so cute!"
    &
    "It's so beautiful!"
    &
    "It's so great!"
All three of these go together. You'll say any one of these in reference to:
    a toy
    a chip
    a spoon
    a leaf
    a piece of paper
    a stuffed animal
-oh, to have the mind of a child.

    "I'm funny!"
I'm glad you think so too.

    "Lay down, go to sleep."
I may or may not say that when putting you to bed.

    "I wanna dance."
And you'll keep repeating that until we say, "Ok, go ahead and dance!"

    "I wanna snuggle dad."
Meaning, I wanna snuggle with dad.
    So.Stinking.Cute.

    "Rock out, dude!"
Normally said in the car whilst rocking out to the radio.

    "I want a 'tar."
One of my favorites these days. 'Tar - short for Guitar.
Meaning - dad, go get your guitar and sing to me.

    I love your words.
    And your face.
    Don't ever grow up, ok?

    4/11/11

    Bored.

Sometimes we get bored in our household.
Here's how it usually plays out.

When I go grocery shopping and THEY get bored:
    Funny stuff.

When the kiddo is asleep and WE get bored:

These pictures are stunning. What can I say...

When she and I have nothing to do:

    And this....
    Ohhhhh THIS.
    I have no words.
I never knew this existed until I found it the other day.
    Oh my.

iPhone Sunday - Alive & Kicking

I love the iPhone and all its gloriously delicious apps. I'm like a kid in a candy store - with the plethora of dorky games to choose from. And now they have camera apps..and I'm hooked. Even more than I was before. Here's the proof:

Proof that my kid sings along with the radio in the car.

Proof that these two are buds. She loves him and he loves her. And it melts my heart. Woh.

Proof that my dog follows me everywhere. When I walk down the hall, when I go get the mail, when I look out the window, when I go wash my hands, when I sit on the couch, when I open the fridge...

Proof that we have some scary looking stairs going into the basement. (...more proof that my dog follows me everywhere. Can you spot his legs?).

Proof that she's related to a rockstar. She loves that mic.

Proof that the sky never ceases to amaze me...

Proof that this is what happens when I say to the rockstar, "Can you feed the kid, please?"

    Life Is......

    ...not always perfect.
    ...unexpected.
    ...unusual.
    ...short.
    ...a beautiful thing.
    ...full of surprises.
    ...fragile.
    ...filled with miracles.
    ...a gift.
...not the way I planned or imagined it would be.

    Get Well Soon - 4/8/11

to the miss kiddo sassy pants -

I don't STRONGLY dislike a lot of things.
However, I strongly dislike when you are sick.
I strongly dislike puke shooting forth from your mouth.

    It had to be said.

Yesterday - you were so fed up with throwing up that AS you were "tossing your cookies", you waved your hands in front of your face in frustration - which launched chunky chunks all over the living room in all directions.

    Get healthy, will ya?
    It breaks my heart.

...and turns the stomach a bit.

(that had to be said too).

    Land Of The Lost

The Rockstar and I used to work at this vintage clothing store together in Chicago.
    Saturdays and Sundays.
    I miss that place.

Well, maybe I don't miss getting shirts off the ceiling for people wanting to get a closer look.
Or - those dangling heads, for that matter.
Finding a Halloween costume, however? Now that was EASY.
    Ahh memories.

    Rome

Once upon a time, my sister and I went to Rome.
A Christmas present from my dad.
    My dad rocks.

My sister had a film camera at the time.
And all these pictures are straight out of the camera, or SOOC, as the fancy people say.
    No editing.
    My sister rocks.
She took around a million pictures. Literally. It was pretty close to a million... I think.
And these are a couple of my favorites.

I think we went in 2003.
I think we went for 2 weeks.
    I could be way off.
In any case, it was an amazing trip.

Have you ever seen the movie Being John Malkovich? Strange movie.
The bed and breakfast we stayed at reminded me of the 7 1/2 floor in that movie.
Our B&B was located in a hotel. On the second floor.
But it wasn't part of the hotel at all.
    First floor: Hotel
Second floor: A random bed and breakfast (4  bedrooms).
    Third floor: Hotel.
    Fourth floor: Hotel.
    ...and so on.
    Make sense?
I loved that little random B&B, by the way.

    We went all over Rome.
    The Colosseum.
    The Pantheon.
    The Vatican.
    St Peter's Basilica.
    The Sistine Chapel.
    Trevi Fountain.
    The Spanish Steps.
    The Roman Forum.
    The Piazza del Campidoglio.
    It was all fascinating.

I'd love to go back again and see if that little 2nd floor B&B still exists.

Thanks, dad. I'll never forget that trip.
And thanks, sis, for the sweet photos.

    Little Miss.

to my little miss (full of bliss)

I've never been good about keeping track of things.
Truth: your mother is not super organized.
Fact: I will still probably make you clean your room.

Sadly, I never wrote down when you said your first word, when you first rolled over, the first time you said 'i love you'....
    Terrible, I know.
I jotted down a handful of dates and facts on a dry erase board hanging in the hallway.

On the dry erase I have noted:
    the first time you smiled
the first time you slept through the night
    the first time you laughed

I do remember what your first word (in which you actually KNEW what you were talking about) was: BEAR.

I remember the first time you realized you could actually JUMP in a jumper.

I recall the first time you threw up everywhere and I was certain you were dying, called my mother-in-law and she let me know that you probably just had the flu.

Oh and there's LOTS of video footage. Remind me to bring that out when you bring home your first boyfriend.

Things I do know (which need no remembering):

The minute I knew you existed, I fell madly in love.
The second I saw your face - I realized why IIIII was in existence.

    You are
    the apple of my eye,
    the bee's knees,
    the cat's pajamas,
the greatest thing since sliced bread,
    my favorite.

    I will always
    fight for you,
    believe in you,
    support you,
    pray for you,
    be proud of you,
    love you,
    no matter what.

    Thanks for being my kiddo.
    Thanks for cracking me up.
Thanks for telling me I'm funny.
    Thanks for the hugs.
    Thanks for calling me mama.
Thanks for making me cry tears of:
    joy
    sadness
    thankfulness
    pure bliss.

    I love you.
